I ARRIVED IN GERMANY IN NOV. 1957.
THE MILITARY INVITED SOME ORPHANS FROM THE LINDENHOF
ORPHANAGE IN GEISLINGEN-STEIGE
FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER. THERE
WERE ABOUT 80 KIDS FROM ABOUT
AGE 3 TO 14 AT THE LINDENHOF.
IT WAS ABOUT 25 KM FROM COOKE.

THE MILITARY ALSO INVITED THESE
KIDS TO CHRISTMAS DINNER AT COOKE. THEY HAD SANTA CLAUS AND GAVE GIFTS
TO THE KIDS.

MY ROOM-MATE, PAUL COLBERT,
(WHO IS NOW DECEASED) STARTED
VISITING THE KIDS ON WEEKENDS.

WE GOT TO BE GOOD FRIENDS WITH
A BOY BY THE NAME OF WOLFRAM
BLUME. HE WAS 12 1/2 AT THAT TIME.

HIS MOTHER WAS AN ACTRESS AND
DIDN'T HAVE TIME FOR HIM AND HIS
FATHER WAS INJURED IN THE WAR
AND COULDN'T CARE FOR HIM.

THE LINDENHOF WAS ESTABLISHED
IN 1952. THE HEAD OF THE LINDENHOF WAS MRS. DREISBACH.

IN 2009 THEY HAD A REUNION FOR
THE KIDS WHO HAD LIVED AT THE
LINDENHOF. MRS. DREISBACH WAS
THERE AS WAS MY FRIEND WOLFRAM.

MY FRIEND, WOLFRAM, BECAME A
CHEF IN A HOME FOR ALCOHOLIC
MEN AFTER HE GOT OUT OF SCHOOL.

WOLFRAM'S FIRST WIFE LEFT HIM
WITH THREE YOUNG KIDS AND HE
RAISED THEM AND PUT THEM THROUGH COLLEGE.

WOLFRAM RETIRED FROM THE HOME
FOR ALCOHOLIC MEN ABOUT 2005.

WOLFRAM STILL CORRESPONDS WITH ME VIA E-MAIL. HE VISITED US
IN THE STATES SEVERAL TIMES. HE
INHERITED HIS FATHER'S ESTATE
AND WAS ABLE TO COME TO THE
STATES ABOUT EVERY TWO YEARS.

I TOOK MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER TO
GERMANY IN 1992 AND THEY GOT TO
SEE WHERE I LIVED FOR THE 18 MONTHS I WAS IN GERMANY.

WOLFRAM IS STILL RETIRED. HE
RECENTLY GOT MARRIED.

I WORKED IN THE QUARTERMASTER
CLOTHING STORE DURING THE TIME
I WAS IN GERMANY.

I FEEL THAT MY INVOLVEMENT WITH
THE ORPHANGE MADE MY STAY IN
GERMANY MUCH MORE PLEASANT.

Just checked Horst Muellers photo's of 4/16 Labor Day sporting event, 1983. There are alot of the guy's from the herd in the photo's. Tate, Workmen, Lanza, Garza, Hampton and the new CO that took Capt. Fallavollita'a place, can't think of his name.

Wow.........This site is awesome. Was at planet Gerp in 81 sorry to here it is closed. I have alot of great memories, who can forget Maggies, schnitzel and potato salad, YUM. I went through some of the pics and see a guy standing in front of the Honey Do, another great resteraunt. I see people talk about club Life, does anyone remember the name of the Country and Western club on the way to Stuttgart? great place. I have alot of pics that I will be working on getting posted.

album 2 photo 55,, I'am sure that is the entrance to the post theater,, it looks like someone is decorating it for Christmas,,,but in 59 & 60 you could walk through there, and go into the "snack bar" through the parking lot entrance..goooood hamburgers there....and a jukebox with 50s music...we had the best of 2 worlds.....

Hello fello spaders. I was a medic stationed in Gurp. Found the site this week. Have managed to find some ppl who knew ppl from the unit. What a great time, anyone know Gary Simpson? been looking for him for a long time, he lived in Missoulla MT. Love to here from anyone who was there then.

Picture of the PX at Cooke Barracks the laundry cleaners was located at the end near the street. The 3rd car on the right was my (green) 1967 VW, I bought the car at Goeppingen VW Heinz Hoffman was the (salesman). The price was $1,440.00 "new" and the monthly payment was $41.00.....if I had to guess, I would say, "that picture was taken early spring 1968. I remember the guy taking pictures..I was going in the PX.

I was with HHC 1st IDF from 80 to 83. The grunt unit was the 1/26th Blue Spaders when I left in 7/83. When did it change to the 4/16th. Was the 1/26th deactivated?

4th Quartermaster Battalion Reunions

I was at Cooke Barracks in 1957-1959 with Company A 4th Quartermaster Battalion 4th Armored Division. Cooke Barracks

May 2007 4th Quartermaster Battalion Held our 1st Reunion May 6 through May 9 in Pigeon Forge, TN. We had 93 total in attendance including wives, children, grandchildren, brother, sisters and friends. 95% of the men in attendance had not seen each other since we left Germany in 1959 and 1960.

Retired W0-4 Herman L Strickland attended. He was 85. He was Officer in charge of the Motor Pool 1957-1960.
Retired Lt Colonel Donald Walden Company Commander of B Company was able to attend. He was 84 years.
Clare Robbins widow of our Company Commander Retired Lt Colonel Richard C Robbins and her son Richard, who was born on Thanksgiving Day 1958 came with her. Ray Brief retired Sgt Major E-8 was able to attend

Our second reunion was in May 3 through May 6  2009. We had 126 Total attending. Retired WO-Herman L Strickland age 87 came with his two daughters.

Retired Colonel Noel S Schvaneveldt and his wife attended. Colonel Schvaneveldt was 82 years. Colonel Schanvanevelt was Officer in charge
Motor Pool Platoons and Class III.  He was our leader for Company A Honor Guard.

We also had Three Men who enlisted in 1957
and retired from the U S Army. Ray Brief, SGT Major E-8, Donald L Moser, E-7 and George W Reece, Jr Staff Sgt E-7

Our third reunion will be May 2, 3, 4, 2010 Pigeon Forge, TN We are expecting 60 total to attend. WO-4 Herman L Strickland Retired(88 years old) will bring his son Richard T Strickland, who was 8 years in 1957 at Cooke Barracks.

Lt Colonel Richard C Robbins (Deceased) Son Richard Robbins and his grandson (Rick Robbins who was 15 months old) when Lt Colonel Richard C Robbins passed away are planning to attend.

U S Army retire, Ray Brief and George Reece will attend

For Information Lt Colonel Richard C Robbins is buried on the Campus of Clemson University, Clemson, S C. His wife Clare live in Lexington, S C

If you plan to have a reunion, do not wait until 50 years later. We had over 200 men in Company A. 101 of these men have passed away. Still looking for 38 men. Our Battalion had Company B and HQ and HQ. These men are not included in the total.

Should we have another reunion in 2011 come and join us. You may be a stranger when you attend. You will then be a friend for life when you leave.

1st signal co (P) 1st Spt Bn. 79-81, Our First Sergeant was 1SG Applewhite, he came over from the Blue Spaders. Ligon was the post CSM. We made sure that we stayed of his radar!!! Lived in the barracks that was right across the street from the PX. Great times.... GA week, the NCO club, EM club, and can't forget the Life club... made a lot of good friends...Traylor, Cooper, Booker, Plaza and Jones my room mates, Rodriquez, Wilson, Joy, SSG Ingram, Sgt Bradford, Rollerson, just to name a few.... I have to say.....after 22 years in the Army with 4 tours in Germany...Gopp was the best assignment by far!!
