visiting in May

Just have to say that I will once again visit "Gerp" in May, after a absence of 26 yrs., and I am so looking forward to it.

I know that things will definitely not be the same as when I served there from 70-73, then lived for 3 more yrs. as a "gastarbiter" from 73-76, nor will they be the same as when I last lived there, from 84-85, but I have to see it once again; walk the streets that I "stumbled" through; eat, drink and smell the life that had such an incredible impact on me, once again.

I have to see the bldg. that housed the Eierschale. I want to see the bahnhof, and buy a Loto ticket there. I want to go to Geislingen, and see the Bier Alm. I want to stand on top of Hohenstaufen one more time, after making that kick-ass drive up the hill. I want to see the "playground" on Hohenstaufenstr., and remember the nights that we rocked that place out, until the "pigs" showed up, and told us to leave. Hell, we could hardly walk, let alone "leave." Oh, those were the times!!!!

Anyone that might have memories of "my time" there, maybe having shared some of them with me, let me know. I'd love to meet up, and have a Kaffee and ein stickle kuchen, and reminisce.

Cooke Barracks

Hello,,,,I was at Cooke Barracks from 1962 to 1964,,,,,I was with the 504th Military Intelligence Detachment,,, worked in an office next to the airfield,,,,,,by the Helicopter base,,,,,

I had a great time there,,,,,lived off base,,,,,in Hohenstaufen,,,,Eislingen,,,,,and in Goeppingen,,,,,,enjoyed the people,,,,,the food,,,,,travelling all around southern Germany.

Would love to hear from anyone who was there at the same time,,,,would love to correspond with old friends.

Rod & Gun Club Members

If you want to see an official membership card from 1967-1968...click on the album of pictures,that I sent in....or was it Rod and "Bottle". We use to play the nickel slot machines and of course had a "few" flip tops. I think you were able to purchase fishing poles,rifles and pistols.

I looked at that picture a few times and finally realized---that I'm kneeling
helping with the "ammo". After that we (E-5's) went into the dug out and helped with the targets. circa:1967 or 1968. the picture says, M-14's, but we had M-16's back in "basic" (Ft.Knox). 1965

Memories! We all have them dont we. Listen, everyone, young and old. I practically grew up @ the NCO Club. My mom Chris worked there for as far back as I can remember. My sisters (Tina & Patty) were there as little kids when Santa was there to take the annual Christmas Pics. As I got older I was able to baby-sit upstairs when the Commedors and Percy Sledge came to perform.

But I am saying all this to just hear friends remember my Mother. She passed away in 1999 due to cancer. However, she started at the Club as a cocktail waitress, then dinning waitress and then to Cook. Back then it seemed as if everyone knew my mom. Prior the NCO Club she had other jobs on post, employed by the Department of Defense.

the difference of transportation you experienced depended on when you arrived or departed Germany,, in the late 50s and early 60s you were more likely to enjoy the scenic trip via the USS Upshire or the USS Buckner,,or something named very close to those,, I found out in a hurry,,you don't want to have one of those "Atlantic cruises" at the end of January,,thought I was going to die. You guys that enjoyed the "flight" hope you got air sick..

Well Blue Spaders, I don't know if many of you guys/girls are still running around the old stomping grounds Like I am but what the heck....
Would be nice to hear from the folks and fellow service members of the CB era and if there's something you'd like to know, I'll sure try and get ya an update on the present situation. Kinda easy for me since I'm still running around here(still living in Gopp today). Things have changed a lot...if there's anything left, it's a wonder....some of the facilities are still standing but not many, some are.....
If you've travel Germany (esp around here) then I'll try and get it back into view....
